The Useless Corset

Published on Author CorsetMaster

Dear Sir,–As a constant reader of your excellent paper, I would wish to protest strongly against some of the letters in your correspondence pages from those ancients, “The Corset Brigade,” Does not everybody know that the modern girl has practically given up corsets altogether, the sometimes necessary suspender belt being the last relic?

Those corset folk should know that we modern girls take delight in displaying our female forms divine without artificial supports. One letter describing a pair of corsets that came right up to the armpits amused us immensely. Imagine the modern girl encased in such “arour,” when most of our frocks begin very much below the armpits!

I was at a party a few nights ago and wore the following, which I am sure your readers will agree was more in keeping with the modern spirit that any confection “Corset Lover,” etc., would consider beautiful.

I am tall, fair, and generously proportioned, I wore a black crepe frock with a deep V in front, also V-shaped at the back with two peaks. I wore old gold pure silk stockings, held up by wide jet garters.

Now, I ask your readers, what does a modern girl in such a modern frock want with corsets? What would I want with a corset reaching to my armpits? Such old-fashioned notions belong to 1898, not 1928.

Yours truly, MODERN WOMAN.
