Dear Sir,–Although I am a male corset-wearer and am in the habit of reducing my waist by this means to three-fifths of my chest measurement I venture to express my doubts as to the veracity of your correspondents on the subject of the so-called “pope stem waist.”
For instance, in your issue of August 18th, “Rose” asks us to believe that a metal band split in two was placed round her waist and then forced together by means of long bolts and large thumb-screws until the lacing met and the waist measured 13½in. circumference and, I suppose, 6in. in depth.
May I suggest that you publish the opinion of any well-known speciality corset-maker on the merits of this and similar communications?
Yours faithfully,
K. H. P.
