Dear Sir,–As a widower of three-and-a-half years, my mind’s eye is forever recalling the trim figure of my wife induced judicious corseting which had a fascination for me. She often remarked what a comfort her corsets made to suit her were, and tried to persuade me to wear something of the kind. I had been accustomed to feel sorry that fashion demanded that she should wear a tight garment, but on complying with her wishes recently I found what a bracing effect the wearing of a wide belt or “corset” if you like, provides. I took to it from the first day, finding it a healthful safeguard particularly as at the same time, although over fifty years of age, I took to motor-cycling. My tailor told me my waist measurement was 36 inches, but do you know that over the belt it measured 30 inches immediately! Beyond a little stiffness in stooping at first I experienced no discomfort, but rather the reverse.
The makers assured me that “corset” hands are scarce to-day, but it is impossible not to admire the way in which they ate made to fit the figure for either sex, nor to wonder that our womenfolk vary them according to their occupation time of day and seasons of the year.
