SHOULD MEN WEAR CORSETS?

Dear Sir,–I shall be very much obliged if you would publish this in your correspondence columns, and also any opinions of fellow-readers on the subject. As a male corset-wearer for some years, I have just been told that it is an injurious habit, but I am very averse to discontinue wearing corsets as they are in my opinion, a most comfortable article of apparel.

I do not go in for tight-lacing, but have them laced just sufficiently tight enough to be conscious of them–in my case about 25in., as I am naturally slim-waisted. I wear the ordinary ladies’ pattern, and when playing tennis, etc., the “sports” type. To assist in preventing them rising up I wear stockings with suspenders attached to the corsets.

I have many times been complimented on my figure by ladies, while one or two of them have told me that they wished other gentlemen friends of theirs would follow my example. Not even my worst enemy would call me effeminate; nor were such men as Sir Walter Raleigh and others if his age, who all wore, I believe, corsets which many women of to-day could not have got into.

As an overseas reader for some years. I wish you every success with your paper which deserves to be more widely known out in this country than it is at present

Yours truly,

“OVERSEAS.”
