Laced at the Office

Published on Author CorsetMaster

Dear Sir,–My contention regarding the corset question is that suitability alone should decide the issue as to what pattern or style of corset should be worn, as well as weather there should be any tight-lacing or not. In my own case, I have allowed the above proposition to operate.

I am tied in an office all day, and after office hours my chief recreation is walking.

Now, for the latter, I have found by experience that the best corset is the light sports type, a good fit, and put on easily without any adjustment of the back laces.

In these I can enjoy a long tramp and return home tired, perhaps, but without any discomfort from my corset, which, by the way, allows me a 22-in. waist. For my office work, however, I lace in.

There is a tendency with an easy corset to loll about, with resulting ungainliness of figure; but I find that with my office corset laced in to 19in. I cannot do other than sit correctly.

My office corset is cut to give me a waist, and as it fits properly, causes no discomfort unless I attempt to lounge, when I quickly find it is easiest to resume a correct sitting posture. If I am going no great distance, I usually wear the same pattern of corset after office hours, but for a long “hike” I wear the sports pattern.

I have found, too, especially after a “hike,” that it is best to wear a sleeping corset. Mine is slightly boned 21in. corset, and when this is removed in the morning my office corset slips on easily, and the effect of the lacing-in is negligible.

For those who affect even a moderately tight corset during the day it will be a pleasant revelation to know that a sleeping corset is an aid to the morning’s comfort after being laced into their day corset.

I may add that there are three others with me at my place of employment, and we all find that a moderately laced-in corset is the most suitable for us. I dare say that if I so wished my waist could be made smaller, but there is no need to lace in any more than is necessary to achieve the result required.

Faithfully yours,
