To the Editor, LONDON LIFE.
DEAR SIR,
Yes, if they are proportionate, but not when, as one sees so often, there is strong evidence of tight-lacing that, in my opinion, gives an ugly look to the figure at once. Anyone who has really studied the question must know that no man can really admire in a woman that which he knows will lay up trouble for her in the future, and I am quite sure, with all due-respect to “M. L.,” that she will be all the healthier when old as if she gives herself more room to breathe now.
Don’t imagine I admire a coffeepot figure (a term we always used at school for a girl with no shape), but I consider if a woman has a good figure, and wears well-made corsets, there is no necessity to tight-lace – she looks charming without.
Yours truly,
ADMIRER.
