Warning to Tight-Lacers

Published on Author CorsetMaster

Dear Sir,–As a reader of your paper, I have for a long time been interested in your correspondence pages, and I find that the majority of the letters deal with tight-lacing or high heels.

A few years ago I was advised to visit a certain museum in Liverpool.  There you find a warning against tight-lacing in the model of a young woman. There is the catalogue description:

“The model of a lady 20 years of age who, having from her earliest childhood accustomed herself to the pernicious habit of tight-lacing, suddenly dropped dead in the arms of her partner while dancing at a ball in Birmingham.”

I thought this might interest some of your tight-lacing devotees.

With reference to high heels, some of your readers go to ridiculous extremes – five or six inch heels. Why, 90 per cent of the ladies cannot wear a two-inch straight.

Of course, nothing looks smarter than a nice two or three inch heel for it just finishes off the line of a nice well-shaped leg.

Wishing you the best of luck for your admirable paper.
